Breakfast of Course (of course, of course!)

October 23, 2014

Brownie points to those of y’all who know what show I referenced in the title of this post!

On Sunday morning, I met up with my dad and grandparents bright and early to to grab breakfast at Mary’s Gourmet Diner (formerly known and still widely referred to as Breakfast of Course) before everyone headed home. Breakfast of Course is massively popular and people start lining up outside before the restaurant is even open to get a table. While I am usually not a huge fan of waiting in lines, the food at Breakfast of Course is just that good that I was willing to drag my family out into the cold to stand in line for half an hour. I feel like I wouldn’t feel this passionately about the matter if my friends would actually wake up early enough to go with me, but sadly I usually have to wait until my parents come to visit.

Southern Comfort Food

October 21, 2014

This past weekend my dad and grandparents came to visit me for the Wake Forest-Syracuse football game. My dad flew into North Carolina the night before my grandparents arrived and so we decided to grab dinner at a local restaurant relatively close to campus,  Milner’s. As described by the chef himself as “refined southern cuisine,” Milner’s menu most definitely lives up to its promise. The food is four star, with options ranging from trout to risotto and oysters to hanger steak, with a flair of southern charm that reminds you of a home cooked meal without any of the effort on your part. I’ve only been to Milner’s once about two years ago but the dining experience was just as wonderful as I had remembered.

Take A Hike

October 1, 2014

A few weeks ago, while my friends Alice and Grace were visiting for the weekend, we spent most of that Saturday outside exploring Hanging Rock State Park. The park isn’t that far away from Wake, maybe about an hour or so, and after their 9+ hour car ride the day before, we all agreed that some physical activity was desperately needed.

Before heading out to Hanging Rock, we stopped for breakfast at one of my favorite bagel shops in Winston, Bagel Station. I’m pretty sure that their breakfast bagels have some kind of magical restorative powers and the prices are cheaper compared to other breakfast places in town. We fueled up on carbs while making a game plan for the day: we allotted about 4 hours for our trip to give us time to stop by Walmart to pick up camo for the celebrations later that night.

Sunny (studious) Sundays

September 23, 2014

I have to admit that I’ve been a pretty boring undergrad this weekend. I have a few papers and midterms coming up in the next couple of weeks, so my weekend involved long days in the library and early nights in bed. I had woken up early on Sunday to set up for the Homecoming Brunch that my sorority hosted, and since I was already up I decided that I had some time to workout before the studying commenced once again.

There were blue skies for miles so instead of doing the elliptical or stair stepper, I did stadium runs instead. The first six rounds were great and I was feeling pretty smug good about myself. I took a short break though when the track team also started doing stadium runs because they were all super fit. And because I’m a super awkward person I pretended like I was getting very important text messages that I had to respond to ASAP (total lie). It all really went downhill from there and I spent the next four rounds wishing that I was doing anything other than running up and down the bleachers, mostly sleeping in or perhaps watching Bones on Netflix. But I finished and was proud of myself as I tottered away to finish my workout.

Go Deacs!

September 9, 2014

Let me start out by saying that the past few days (minus the tiny blips of rain) have been absolutely gorgeous but I didn’t get to enjoy them due to the fact that I caught this killer cold that’s been floating around campus. But with some rest and a lot of soup, I was able to make it out to one of my favorite events of the fall semester–the first tailgate and football game of the year!

Five Points

September 6, 2014

Last weekend my friends and I went out to a restaurant in Winston that I’ve heard a lot about but never been to, Five Points, for my friend’s birthday. The restaurant claims to “Winston-Salem’s finest,” and it’s hard to argue with the diverse menu selections and a staff almost overly eager to assist. We had a large party (there were about twelve of us) and we were seated in our very own room which the other diners in the restaurant were probably thankful for once our conversation got into full swing!
