Birthday celebrations, dreaming about laying out on the beach in Mexico again, cute brightly colored cabanas at the Grand Oasis in Cancun, and pretending to be Frank Underwood outside the White House on a day trip to Washington D.C.
It’s crazy to think that at this time just last week I was lounging by the pool in Cancun with a piña colada in my hand. Although going to classes can’t really compare, it’s been nice to be back on campus with all of my friends and back to my normal routine. And since spring has officially begun I’m excited for the temperatures to start warming up and for the trees to grow back their leaves. Fingers crossed it happens sooner rather than later!
Last week I spent spring break in Cancun with some of my closest friends. Apparently I’ve been to Mexico before but I was so young that I can’t even remember it so it was like traveling to a new country for the first time. Granted we mostly just sat by the pool and didn’t really get a feel for local life or do any of the many activities available (like swimming with whale sharks!!), but the week of sunshine was much needed after the cold winter we’ve been experiencing in North Carolina.
Here are some of the pictures I took over our five day vacation. I’m getting a little nostalgic looking back over them and it’s making me want to hop back on a plane to the tropics.
Last Sunday we went downtown to celebrate one of my closest friend’s 22nd birthday. Granted her birthday was actually on Monday but, you know, we’re all believers of the whole “birthday week.”
We ate at a restaurant that’s a favorite of ours, Jeffrey Adams, which I’ve eaten at a few times already this semester. Per usual I ordered the lobster mac n’ cheese and we all split a pitcher of pomegranate sangria. Luckily I don’t have class on Mondays so I didn’t have to worry about getting up early or anything. We also took a TON of pictures because we all love to pose and pretend like we’re much more popular on Facebook than we actually are (which is the whole point of Facebook… right??). No pictures, however, were taken while we were eating because even as much as I love my camera, a girl has to have her priorities.
Last week we had what every college student dreams about during the winter–a snow day. And the best part is that Tuesdays and Thursdays are my busiest days of the week so I got to relax and hang out with my friends instead of being stuck in class, watching the snow fall. So Tuesday morning my roommate and I dragged ourselves out of bed to play in the snow and meet our other friends for brunch.
