Mostly due to the insistence of the Student Union, Wake Forest hosted a sendoff party for all of the seniors a few weeks before classes ended. Senior Sendoff was basically a celebration of everything that we have accomplished as students and leaders on campus, with the addition of free booze and free food. They bussed us over to the local minor league baseball stadium and had us stand out on the field so that we could take a class picture that actually ended up being pretty cool.
We took a ton of group pictures—it’s strange to think of how many people I’ve met over the years!—and ate our fair share of small bites.
We’ve been dysfunctional as a friend group since day 1, so I’m glad that these pictures were able to capture that. I mean, unlike Zoolander, I like to think that there’s something more to life than being really, really ridiculously good looking… Like taking candid pictures with your best friends.
Of course we took sorority pictures (because obviously we’re trying to fulfill the Greek stereotype…. jokes don’t believe what you see in Hollywood, I’ve loved being in a sorority) and then I made sure to grab a few photos with a couple of the girls that I studied abroad with.
It was a really nice gesture on the part of Wake to host such a great event and it’s not one that I’ll forget anytime soon. Despite all of the laughs and drinks, I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic that I won’t be returning to the campus that’s become my home in the fall. But I kept my feelings mostly to myself because everyone hates a party pooper and plus I wanted to look back on the sendoff in a positive, rosy light. Although I have to admit that I shed a few tears during the firework show, but shhhh.
