Last Sunday we went downtown to celebrate one of my closest friend’s 22nd birthday. Granted her birthday was actually on Monday but, you know, we’re all believers of the whole “birthday week.”
We ate at a restaurant that’s a favorite of ours, Jeffrey Adams, which I’ve eaten at a few times already this semester. Per usual I ordered the lobster mac n’ cheese and we all split a pitcher of pomegranate sangria. Luckily I don’t have class on Mondays so I didn’t have to worry about getting up early or anything. We also took a TON of pictures because we all love to pose and pretend like we’re much more popular on Facebook than we actually are (which is the whole point of Facebook… right??). No pictures, however, were taken while we were eating because even as much as I love my camera, a girl has to have her priorities.
For birthday dessert, the waiter brought out a brownie with ice cream for Hana and it even came out with a candle on top for her to blow out. She was pretty excited about it, as you can tell.
We took even more pictures, probably annoying the table behind us, but it’s not every day that you’re best friend turns 22! Even Taylor Swift agrees that it’s an important birthday.
Senior picture!
And then a few lovey dovey ones with the birthday girl.
Although she didn’t find my advances much to her liking unfortunately.
A few more pictures were snapped before the over-21ers headed down the street to a favorite bar of ours, Tate’s. It’s swankier than the other bars lining 4th Street and I always feel somewhat glamorous walking in and chatting with the bar tender.
We ordered our drinks and the birthday girl even got a free shot after announcing (falsely) that she was 22. I ordered my usual, the Blackbird Julep, and happily sipped and ate the fruit out of my drink while we gossiped and caught up with what was going on in each other’s life.
Aaaand another kissing picture because I love my friends too much and am most likely going to suffer from separation anxiety when we graduate and no longer live two minutes away from each other.
As a surprise for the birthday girl, we planned a party for her at the frisbee house which was being set-up while we were downtown. Because they needed more time, we stalled and decided to walk down the street to another bar. Finnegan’s Wake is a popular choice for Wake Forest students and it’s the bar where Hana got to name her own drink last year on her 21st birthday.
As a present I bought everyone a round of “Irish Breakfast” shots, which tasted exactly like maple syrup and were meant to be chased with orange juice. I was a fan but the reactions were mixed from the rest of the group.
The birthday girl with her famous “Blue & Fruity” from last year. I still don’t understand why she didn’t name the drink after herself but I just decided to roll with it.
We splurged on appetizers between drinks, and I can say hands down that the buffalo chicken nachos was a winner.
And here is the birthday girl making us all promise that we’ll stay friends after graduation and that all of us will come back in September for Homecoming.
A round of “Baby Guiness” shots was enjoyed by some before we were picked up and ~secretly~ drove Hana to the frisbee house for her big surprise party.
……..
I have this great video of Hana almost in tears because she was so shocked, and we were all really proud of ourselves for pulling off the night without Hana having any idea what we had in store for her.
Birthday week may be over but you’re still the birthday girl in my mind, Hana!
