#TBT // that time I went to Harry Potter World and became a witch

October 30, 2014

Growing up in Florida, I definitely took our yearly (sometimes more) visits to Disney World and Universal Studios for granted. Even now, it’s crazy to me that some of my friends haven’t experienced the joy of getting a photo with my favorite mascot, Mickey Mouse. Now that I live about 14 hours and 700+ miles north, I look back on my theme park memories fondly as I haven’t been back since I graduated from high school.

My last trip to Universal Studios was about a year after the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter which was, and still is, wildly popular with young, old and everyone in between. Highlights of the experience include Hogwarts up on the top of the hill, Hogsmeade, and the Hogwarts Express.

#TBT// that time I ate waffles for breakfast, lunch & dinner in Brussels

September 25, 2014

The program I studied abroad with last fall included two 10 day breaks during the semester and for the first of these breaks my mom flew all the way over from the States to travel with me to Berlin and Brussels. While the history of Berlin is fascinating and the city is a weird combination of old and incredibly modern, it was really the quaint little city of Brussels that really captured my heart on that trip. We were only in the city for about 2.5 days total and we made the most of our stay by exploring the streets of Brussels, sharing whipped cream covered waffles and talking to the locals.

The Girls are Back in Town

September 17, 2014

Way back in June or July, when I was still in London for the summer, my friends and I made plans for the two of them to come up to North Carolina and visit for a weekend. We excitedly talked about it for months and they finally made it up this past Friday! We’ve talked about visiting one another since our freshman year so it was a long time coming, I guess you could say.

Alice and Grace drove up from Florida on Friday and made it to Wake around 7 PM after a nine hour drive. But like the champs that they are, they hit the ground running and we went off to dinner in downtown Winston-Salem. Alice is vegetarian, so I looked around for a restaurant that served more than one vegetarian dish and would be relatively inexpensive. I decided to take the two of them to an old favorite of mine, The Old Fourth Street Filling Station. Although I haven’t been that often in the past year, my friends and I used to eat at Fourth Street all the time our freshman and sophomore years.

These are a few of my favorite things

August 20, 2014

About 80 years ago, my grandparents bought a cottage on Lake Erie in a secluded little wood. Nowadays we have plenty of neighbors and the town has grown up around our summer home away from home. We used to spend six weeks every summer up in Dunkirk until I went away to college; now I’m lucky if I get to spend a few days up there. This year I spent an entire week at Summerthur (the nickname for our cottage), while intermittently traveling to D.C. and New York City. While the weather was a bit unpredictable, we had more sunny days than rainy ones which allowed us to enjoy all of our favorite summer activities.

As you may have guessed from the title, this entire post is dedicated to my favorite things about Lake Erie as well as my favorite things to do during the summer!

Our humble abode, Summerthur.
