I think that every single person I’ve talked to in the past week has been just as blown away by the fact that it’s already August as I am… But seriously, how are we already eight months into 2017??!
I was in Atlanta last week on a business trip and then spent the weekend in New York City with my boyfriend and his family, so I’ve spent the past few days doing very little other than relaxing with wine in hand and a face mask on. I am looking forward to this weekend though because my birthday is on Saturday!
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve unabashedly been a huge bookworm and voracious reader. I used to start and end every day from elementary school all the way through college with a book in one hand and a pen in the other so that I could write down quotes I liked or character’s names that I found unique. In fact, I actually somehow managed to read the first three books in A Song of Fire and Ice series (love me some Game of Thrones!) over one summer a few years ago because I couldn’t bring myself to put my Kindle down.
Despite my love for books, I have to admit that ever since I started my full-time job two years ago that I’ve become more likely to turn on a reality tv show than pick up a book once I get home after a long day. There’s just something about reading financial statements all day that makes me want to turn off my brain and indulge in the trashier side of life… To counteract this in the hopes that my brain won’t turn to total mush one day, I made a new year’s resolution this year to read at least 15 books in 2017 and I’m happy to report that I’m already over halfway to my goal!
One of my favorite parts about college was the fact that I lived within walking distance of most of my friends. In fact, it usually took me about a five minute walk max to make it from my apartment to another apartment or house.
So it was hard for me when I graduated and moved up north, which meant that to see the majority of my friends even for just a weekend I would have to either catch a train or hop on a plane. Despite the distance, I try my best to keep in touch and keep up with each other’s lives whether that means sending a text or actually picking up the phone and giving them a call.
Y’all I am so excited that it’s finally Friday! I’ve had one of those weeks when you wake up on Tuesday and think that it’s Friday when you first wake up, so the weekend has been a long time coming for me.
What’s more exciting though is that I’ll be flying down to Atlanta later today to see friends from college for the weekend!! I’m taking a half day from work and should be reunited with my friends by Happy Hour tonight!
I always feel so incredibly blessed during this time of year. Despite having spent all of my money on Christmas gifts and having usually gained 5+ lbs thanks to all of the holiday cookies in the office, January is a rose-tinted month for me in every way. Maybe it’s the last of the high from spending time with family on Christmas or the fact that the year is still so fresh, I’m extremely grateful for everything and everyone in my life.
So why not spread the love through giving back to the community?
Who else loves snow days as much as I do?! There’s nothing I love more on a winter day than heading out and explore the freshly fallen snow, mostly because I love how quiet the world gets after a storm.
