I’ve been pretty good about going to the gym lately. After spending two weeks hiking through Peru and pushing myself to keep going even when I thought that I couldn’t take another step, I’ve been feeling particularly inspired to stay in shape and not revert back to my days of spending hours on the couch watching Netflix.
So I was feeling pretty good about myself until I read an article about how Blake Lively spent 13 hours in the gym everyday to get in shape for her newest movie. THIRTEEN HOURS. No wonder she’s such a babe! Unfortunately, I have to spend a majority of my day sitting in my cubicle so I can’t dedicate as much time to fitness. Which means I have to get creative on days when I can’t make it to the gym for my normal weight lifting/cardio class.
While traveling or on days when I go running and want to add a quick bodyweight workout, here are my favorite moves that get me huffing and puffing. Repeat twice:
- 50 squats
- 30 seconds holding squat
- 30 walking lunges
- 2 minutes high knees
- 40 sumo squats
- 1 minute jumping jacks
- 50 bicycles
- 15 full sit-ups
- 1 minute leg raises
- 1 minute plank
- 1 minute side plank (30 seconds on each side)
- 50 calf raise
- 10 burpees
And one of my favorite post-workout recipes, my Peanut Butter Energy Bites, are great because they’re easy to make ahead of time and because they taste amazing to boot!
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cups white chocolate chips (I don’t like chocolate so I usually switch normal chocolate for white)
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp honey
Mix together in a bowl. Form into balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for a minimum of 1 hour and they’ll be ready to eat!
